It is kind of ironic that my last post was mocking my inability lack of desire to cross train, and no sooner than I post my blog entry do I have the worst back pain of my life.
Background information: I started having lower back pain when I first took up running in the summer/fall of 2009. I was seeing a chiropractor once or twice a week until our insurance changed from reasonable copay to large deductible. Bi-weekly chiropractor appointments were not so feasible after that. Shortly thereafter, I began to increase my time spent lifting weights in the gym. I upped my core exercises and left running aside until I regained my strength.
Since then, I have not hadany many problems with my back, other than your everyday aches and pains from spending extended periods of time sedentary in a chair. Until yesterday.
So I spent the majority of today popping Tylenol and avoiding thinking about my usual Tuesday evening run, which I forwent in favor of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.
I picked up Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred eight months before my wedding, and I like to attribute a great deal of my weight loss and muscle mass to this woman. That being said, she works it. She does not let you rest, and you have to dedicate yourself to the program. It is only a 20 minute workout, so you really have to give it your all.
I had not done the 30 Day Shred since before the wedding and...
I ROCKED IT!
I don't mean to gloat, but I think it is important to be proud of your accomplishments. To look back at where I have been and how far I have come, it has been a long journey. Revisiting your routes is one of the best ways to see how far you have come. I struggled to get through half of the 30 Day Shred the first time I tried it. It felt like an eternity to finish. Now, it was like I blinked and it was over... and I was really sweaty and felt great.
Best of all, my back is feeling much better. I am icing now and hoping to get back to running tomorrow.
So, schedule for the rest of the week will go as planned, picking up with tomorrow's 4 mile pace run:
Where did you get started and how do you measure your fitness success?
