I do not know how dinner decisions are made in your house, but usually when the topic of dinner comes up with my husband and I, there are roughly 40 texts exchanged throughout the work day that include suggestions and a lot of "IDK," "Ehh," and other indecisive forms of communication.
We have been going through this dance for years. Eventually, we come to an agreement on what will satisfy both of us or one of us makes the decision and gets to cooking.
When I was making my grocery list for this weekend's shopping trip, it suddenly hit me. Why don't I plan our meals out in advance? I know what you are thinking, isn't that what everyone does? But no. This had never occurred to me before. Thankyouverymuch. And if it works to keep me on track with my workouts, why not my meals?
Not only will this BRILLIANT idea save me time trying to decide what to prepare during the week, but it also gives me the foresight to have the ingredients I need to try new recipes.
So, here is what this week's dinners look like:
Sunday
Pork Chops with Mushrooms and Shallots
I have had great success with other SkinnyTaste recipes and this one was no different. I have had some pork chops in the freezer needing to be eaten, so easy Sunday meal. Delicious. I highly recommend trying it out.
Monday
Lean Beef Tacos
No trick here. Just good ol' tacos.
Tuesday
Abesioli
This is one of my favorites from my childhood. It is quick and easy, and provides great fuel for running.
Wednesday
Italian Garden Meatloaf
I was looking for a good crock pot recipe that I could set and forget, and come home to on Wednesday. This week is my first Wednesday six miler, so the less work I have to do when I get home from work, the better.
Thursday
Green Chicken Enchilada
This is my latest obsession. I threw these together for guests a few weekends ago and I am hooked. So of course I wanted to squeeze these back into the meal plan.
Friday
Pizza or date night?
Friday is my indulgence day. You cannot be good every day of the week. Allowing yourself to have treats in moderation keeps you from having cravings and reminds you how sweet life can be!
So two new recipes, three comfort recipes, and an indulgence. Saturday will be determined by whatever tickles my fancy. This weekend, I recreated our Valentine's Day dinner. More on that to follow later this week!

Seriously - we lead the same lives. I have been making my weeks worth of meal schedule on Saturdays for Sunday-Friday for 4 years now. It is even posted on the fridge. If we don't plan then we do they whole "what do you want" "I don't know, what do you want". I wouldn't eat healthy like that. Maybe we can get ideas from each other!
ReplyDeleteOk, so, my hubby brought up that he would enjoy if I could make him a schedule and post it on the fridge, similar to elementary school lunches so he could know what to look forward to. Haha That's so funny. I love that you do that. I told him I want to get a kitchen chalkboard to write the meals on, but maybe I'll just start printing out a weekly calendar for him. That's a good idea.
ReplyDeleteThere are some cool DIY chalkboards on Pintrest using chalkboard spray. I have something like this - http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31pcpON9DIL.jpg . I used to heavy duty magnetic clips to hold it up on the fridge.
